The latest news (and unofficial views) from JP

 7th May 2011 - 10.45pm

And .... we're back! Hello Worsbrough Young Farmers.  JP and Mrs JP back at the helm of the website so come on, lets have some content.  In the 7 months since I last blogged we've had loads of fun.  The Race Night last month being a particular highlight.  Massive thanks to Judith H for organising such a brilliant event. £500 for club funds can't be sniffed at ... not to mention having a great night out with friends, family and the equally brilliant Worsbrough Brass Band.

Check out the Programme pages which are getting back into development so you can see what we will be doing, when and where.  I am especially looking forward to the boat trip on the 9th of June. (I'm currently lobbying Wilko to make it a Pirate theme so Mrs JP can dress up as a wench again.) The missus says she wants some decent raffle prizes this time as it's a bit embarrassing selling tickets for the world's lamest prizes!

3rd October 2010 - 1.30pm

What a year ... it's 12 months since the last AGM when I was elected Vice President and joined the Programme Committee.  It is marvellous to see the way the club has come on over the last year ... down to the incredible hard work of so many people it would take too long to name them here but I know they know who they are.

Tuesday 28th September saw our AGM at Tankersley Welfare Hall.  Steve Wilkinson was elected Chairman, Kathryn Riddle steps down (but not far) to take the Vice-Chair, Rose Ambler is now Club Secretary and Bethany Phillis takes over as Programme Secretary.

Another change coming up will be this website.  Sam Kinghorn is keen to have a go at keeping it up to date ... so this will be my final blog entry!  Me and Mrs JP will have to find something else to do on these cold, dark, winter evenings ("Yes, Housework" - Mrs JP).

Since going on line in April our website has had 508 hits (visitors including repeat visitors) - and we have received praise from County for having our own website.  Our web profile is on the up, as we can be found through a Google search now.  But don't leave Sam hanging and remember to email him photos to keep our site current.  You can always leave Programme and other ideas on the website for Sam to pass on to Bethany.

So from me and Mrs JP (aka my secretary) thanks for the support and keep reading - we will.

22nd September 2010 - 8.30pm

Welcome to Autumn Worsbrough Young Farmers - and I am delighted to be once again updating our programme pages with an exciting list of events for the coming months.  Like many of our members I have been busy Harvesting for the last few weeks and sadly YFC is forced onto the back burner.

Thinking back we did have a smashing time on the Car Rally - 14 teams took part in an afternoon of brilliant fun and some seriously bad driving.  With cars full of members hurtling (at times up and down the same narrow lane half a dozen times) around the greater Barnsley area it was a miracle no one crashed or got booked!  It wasn't 'against the clock' - but who wanted to come in last!  Thanks to Judith Hopkinson for planning a brilliant treasure hunt - the honours going to ex-member Andrew Pickering and his family for coming in with the highest number of points and winning first prize.  Special thanks To Melvyn Wragg for laying on a delicious hog roast which not only refreshed exhausted and starving hunters but earned some decent dosh for the club as well.  A top afternoon of fun for all the family.

Coming up is the AGM ... we need bums on seats and there will be committee vacancies so please don't be frightened to put yourselves forward.  It is your chance to have a say in how the Club is run and what you do.  The Club can't run without a committee so stick your hand up - you never know you might even enjoy it or end up on Junior Apprentice!  (If you're a bit shy to stick your hand up publicly but think you might fancy doing more for the club then have a quiet word with me or any of the other members of the Advisory Committee when you next see us -unless it's the 22nd October on my Brewery Trip when it is doubtful I will have any memory of anything said or done by 10am the next morning.)

Not officially a YFC organised event (as lots of non-members will also be joining us)  I am having a night out at the Wentworth Brewery on Friday 22nd October.  Tickets cost £20 for men and £15 for lightweight women.  Money to me by Business meeting on 14th October to secure your place.

Finally, well done to everyone on the Programme Team for pulling another great season out of the bag once again.

20th July 2010 - 9.30pm

Well done everyone who went Clay Shooting on the 1st of July - people seemed to be having a great time.  Many hadn't shot before and were well tutored by Club leader John Hague, John Cowgill, Andrew and myself.  Well over 24 people participated making it a really successful evening.

The next event on the calendar is the car rally on the 1st of August.  Partiticpation costs £10 per car for a short treasure hunt followed by Hog Roast and Karaoke.  Departure details are in the Members Area or are available as usual from Kathryn.

25th June 2010 - 10.30pm

We had an excellent night on the boat trip, the event was a sellout and at one point we nearly tipped the boat over.  The weather was sunny and I made an effort and wore some very loud shorts (see pictures). During the cruise we were treated to a few fine views, Doncatraz, Conisboro Castle and a fine pair of breasts on a Trampoline. The event raised in total around £300 for club funds.  Thanks to everyone for making this another great event.  Also thanks to The Wyre Lady, Melvyn and Judith for donating raffle prizes.

Next week we are going clay shooting - get those guns oiled and ready!

13th June 2010 - 8.30pm

We had a very good evening on Saturday night at Falthwaite farm .  The  night got off to a disappointing start with the England match but everyone enjoyed the BBQ and the Karaoke which went on till 1 am the best singer of the night was Olivia with a great performance of Valerie.  Around fifteen members camped and there certainly was some impressive looking tents. The Boat trip is now sold out; fingers crossed for a fine night.

4th June 2010 - 9.00pm

We had a good game of rounders last night which everyone enjoyed. Kirsty  and Lauren cooked up an impromptu BBQ on a disposable grill and best I know no-one has died!

Excitement is building for the forthcoming BBQ and camp out and also for the Boat Trip.  It should be a stormer and tickets are selling fast so make sure you have got yours by Thursday.  Finally, good luck to everyone competing at the County Rally on Sunday, I hope plenty turn out to support you.

25th May 2010 - 9.00pm

We had a very good evening at last weeks fishing match with quite a good turnout of 22 people many catching fish for the first time. The winner was George Lancashire with eleven roach, second place was Sam and Eddie with 7 roach and perch and joint third was Bethany and Kathryn with 4 perch.  The big carp kept circling around but wouldnt bite.  We ended the night with a BBQ cooked by Abby Cone.  This week we are going to the Driving Range,  Good Luck to all members doing exams at the moment and don't forget to get your tickets for the boat trip as these are now going well.

Quick plea from Mrs JP - despite taking the family camera JP was too busy being the Bon Viveur and Host to take any photos of the fishing competition.  We'd love to put some on the web so if any of you have any photos you'd like to share please send them to us by email to John's address which you can find in the members area.

16th May 2010 - 4.30pm

Well, what can I say.  The District Rally!  John is spot on ... Worsbrough are well and truly back in the running! Well done to all who took part but special mention to Bethany who won the Pony Judging.  Steve Wilkinson and Andrew Cowgill who also did well.  Third places in the Cooking and the Tug of War were well deserved.

Hope you have all spotted the programme change and are coming to the fishing night here at Lake Pearson - the monster Carp are biting well ("mmmmm really? Thought you were doing housework while I was out today" - Mrs P).

Finally, the Boat Trip tickets are selling fast.  Get yours now to avoid disappointment.  Remember, any profit we make goes straight back into the club and helps ensure you can all enjoy activities without too much worry about cost.

6th May 2010 - 10.45pm

I've just got back from the Rally Practice Night ... goodluck to everyone for Sunday!

I am thrilled to announce the tickets for the Boat Trip are now available - priced at £12 per person they include disco and a pie and pea supper.  There is a full bar on board.  It will set sail on the 17th June and more details are in the members area.  Tickets are available from Steve W, Kathryn and me.  Remember, this event was a real highlight of last year and we expect it to sell out this year, fast, so first come first served.

We've done a bit of tweeking (not tweeting - we're not that trendy) and have added a forum to the members area tonight.  Members can use this to discuss YFC related topics and make suggestions for programme ideas.

Don't forget to leave feedback on the website in our guest book.

25th April 2010 - 10pm

Well, here I am on a Sunday night stopping up late with Mrs JP to get Worsbrough YFC its first ever website! All unfavourable comments will be deleted and forgotten.

Looking forward to the Boat Trip - all booked now and tickets will be coming soon!  The excitement is building .... get practicing Andrew C, I don't want to drink you under the table again - it was just embarrassing last time!

Went to Tug of War Practice last week.  OK - really impressed.  Opponents should be scared - though we may need to fatten some members up a bit.

Kathryn and Abby should be enjoying their last night at the National Convention Weekend ... all that drinking and sharking, wish I were 20 years younger!

Final word - get practicing for the Clay Shoot on 1st of July - even if it just means getting the Wii out.  Its open to all and you don't even need your own gun or licence.  Experienced shots (members and non-members) are especially welcome to tutor the less experienced.  Contact me directly for more information.
